COURSE OBJECTIVES :
These objectives will be met through reading primary and secondary sources, viewing, discussing and writing about dance.

  1. To gain knowledge and understanding of the history of Western Theatrical Dance.
  2. To understand and appreciate the many cultural uses of dance.
  3. To learn to understand and evaluate critically dance works of various periods and styles.
  4. To widen your perception and ability to describe and analyze movement.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS :
  1. REGULAR CLASS ATTENDANCE. This will be crucial as much of our  "video viewing" will be in class and there will be NO WAY to make-up what you miss.
  2. During the course of the semester you must demonstrate that you have met the objectives stated above. There will be:
    • In-class Writing Assignments [5 of 7 are required] -- [25% of grade]
    • A Midterm: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 [25% of grade]
    • Term Project assignment. Due at last class [35% of grade]
    • A Final Exam [15% of grade]
